To get under the skin of Shakeela, Richa Chadha first met the south Indian actress Shakeela Khan in real so that she could understand her role better.

A spokesperson of the film said “Richa met Shakeela before they began the shoot. She wanted to meet her in person to get her perspective on the film, get her personal insights. This helped Richa a lot. Not just before the shoot, even now Shakeela is herself mentioning Richa on the nuances of the role, the outfits, the look, everything is being guided to maintain authenticity. Richa is elated to have Shakeela herself be such an imperative and crucial part of the process.”

Actor Pankaj Tripathi is also playing an important role in Shakeela’s biopic as he learned Malayalam to ace her character like a pro.

He said “I’ve watched the original Malayalam film which inspired Billu and many other films. I love Malayalam films. They make them so beautifully and their storytelling skills are brilliant. This role is very new to me; I have never done something like this before. I always try that I don’t copy the caricature. So it’s an original portrayal and I will mould it according to the feedback I receive from the director and the writer. Of course, I will say that it’s a very colourful role. There’s a particular type of body language, a hierarchy to it, a kind of status play as well. So let’s see. I hope the audience likes it as they have liked my other performances so far.”
