Paramount/Viacom Inc.’s Book Club made a mediocre start of $4.73 million on Friday. The adult skewing film about 4 women Diana Keaton, Candice Bergen, Jane Fonda and Mary Steenbergen who meet up once a month for Book Study and a Glass of Wine had cost only $10 million for its production. In that correlation a $13-14 million beginning is not bad at all.
Hopefully the second weekend to be better.
The kind of the audience the movie is pitching, kind of do not race to the theatres on the opening weekend. Besides the Royal Wedding happening Yesterday, they might have stayed back to watch its live coverage. The makers were expecting a breakout but will have to settle for a Phantom Menace level.
The only other big release besides Book Club is Show Dogs.
