She astounded fans when she exposed her secret kidney transplant last month And now Selena Gomez and her very best buddy who offered her the organ are taking a seat to reveal more about the operation which preserved Selena’s life.
The 25-year-old resisted tears as Selena Gomez told Savannah Guthrie on Today how she would have passed away had it not been for Francia Raisa, 29, her friend who offered to give her kidneys up when Selena’s entered into failure in May.
‘ It was really kind of life or death,’ Gomez, whose fight with Lupus is fully-documented, told Guthrie.
Gomez, who has recovered exceptionally and bounced back to work since then, revealed that she did not desire to ask anyone for an organ when she found she needed the transplant ‘My kidneys were simply done. That was it, and I didn’t desire to ask a single person in my life’ she quoted.
‘That was the date I came home, and she offered, she did it,’ she said solemnly.
When Guthrie asked: ‘You feel like Francia saved your life?’ the singer responded without a doubt: ‘Because she did. That’s it.’
The interview will be publicized in three parts; the very first two pieces will be aired on October 30 Monday and October 31, Tuesday on Today.
The 3rd will be shown on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt.
Gomez, who has a large Instagram following of 128 million, revealed the transplant on September 14 by posting a photograph of her and Francia in their hospital dress holding hands.
‘So I found out I had to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recuperating. It was what I had to do for my total health,’ she stated candidly.
The starlet thanked her loyal buddy, calling her ‘sis’ and recognizing her with preserving her life.
‘There aren’t expressions to describe how I can perhaps thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She offered me the ultimate present and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am exceptionally blessed. I love you a lot sis,’ she wrote.
Her statement activated a wave of contributions to The Lupus Research Alliance: $500,000 was gathered in acknowledgment to it, the highest amount it has ever gotten.
Gomez’s partner, The Weekend, was reported to have been by her side throughout her healing in the hospital.
Raisa, who is an actress herself, spoke meekly of her noble gesture in her social networks posts last month.
‘I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not just saved a life, however, altered mine while doing so. This became part of our story, and we will share it quickly, however, what is very relevant now is that this is not the only story,’ she said, sharing the very same photograph as Selena had earlier.
‘She provided me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by contributing her kidney to me. I am extremely blessed. I enjoy you so much sis,’ she wrote.
