Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009)

Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif

The title, which means “The Amazing Story of an Impossible Love,” is tongue-in-cheek, of course, but the film is a pleasing, albeit predictable romantic comedy directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. It’s the first-ever pairing of these actors—and they sure work as a couple.

Prem (Kapoor) lives in a small town, where he’s the president of “Happy Club.” He and his friends have a simple mission: live happily, share their happiness with others, and keep their town happy. However, Prem’s helpfulness always results in disaster. When he meets Jenny (Kaif), he falls in love with her and tries to come to her assistance. As usual, his plans turn out badly, and Jenny gets kidnapped. Prem finds out that she’s crazy about someone else, Rahul (Upen Patel), but he does her bidding anyway.

The chemistry between Kapoor and Kaif keeps the film interesting, as does Kapoor’s superb acting. Patel is mediocre, as usual, and easily forgotten. Actor Salman Khan (Kaif’s real-life love interest) makes a cameo appearance playing himself with his typical comic flair.

The movie is an average chick flick but funny in parts, and the soundtrack is outstanding. Musical composer Pritam once again delivers an impressive song collection.

Kal Ho Naa Ho is rated Worth Watching.
