Chicago South Asian Film Festival to debut this fall

By JENNIFER HOPFINGER

Chicago South Asian Film Festival
South Asian film festivals have long been held in the U.S.—from New York City to Los Angeles. And now, Chicago—which has one of the largest South Asian communities in the country—gets one of its own.

The first annual Chicago South Asian Film Festival, showcasing filmmakers of South Asian descent as well as films that represent the perspective of the diaspora, will be held October 1-3. The festival will screen 15 films, including feature-length movies, documentaries, and short films, in a variety of genres. Organizers expect about 2,000 to attend.

The festival kicks off Friday, October 1 at the Chicago Cultural Center with a red-carpet media event, followed by the opening-night film, a question-and-answer session with the director and lead actors, and an exclusive VIP gala. Screenings on October 2 and 3 will take place at Columbia College Chicago's Film Row Cinema. Select films will also be screened for free at the Chicago Cultural Center on October 2.
