Malyalam actor Kalasala Babu died on Sunday night in Ernakulam. According to the reports he was suffering from heart disease and was undergoing treatment from last three months. He died at a private hospital in Kochi, he was 67 years old. He was admitted at Amrita Hospital in Kochi. As per reports, he became critical when he had stroke during the emergency surgery followed by heart attack.
He started his career from theatre, he has acted in 50 odd films. Kalasala Babu has been the part of many hits movies like ‘Runway’, ‘ Thuruppu Gulan’, ‘Balettan’, and ‘Pokkiriraja’.
Kalasala is the son of famous Kathakali dancer, Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair and Mohiniyattam dancer Kalyanikutty Amm. He also worked for small screen, he debuted in Malyalam cinema with ‘Ineya thedi’. The film was directed by Anthony Eastman it has also the stars Silk Smitha, Sankaradi, Anchankunju in the lead role. Kalasala Babu portrayed negative characters in his films several times and was popular for realistically portraying complicated characters.
Kalasala Babu soon formed his own drama troupe, Kalasala in Thripunithura and their first play, Thalavattom. It was a big hit, the troupe conducted nine renowned plays over the years. He had also worked with Chalaudy Sarathy, a theatre company, for few years. Kalasala Babu has acted in many plays and had a long association with Kalidasa Kala Kendram.
Babu joined the TV industry in 1999 and acted in around 28 shows. He acted in various television serials in his career spanning over four decades. He won the hearts of moviegoers through roles in movie like Kastooriman, Runway, Lion, Perumazhakalam, Two countries and Mallusingh and few others. He is survived by his wife and children Sreedevi and Viswanthan.
Kalasala babu was born in 1955. Babu had been acting in radio plays while at college.
