Spacey fired due to allegations of misconduct
Production took a halt in October 2017, when Spacey was accused of sexually assaulting actor Anthony Rapp when he was 14-years-old. Rapp, in an interview, referred to an incident where Spacey made a sexual advance towards him back in 1986. As Rapp’s story gained fire, more than 30 individuals have made claims against Spacey from sexual harassment to attempted rape.
As soon as allegations of sexual misconduct came out, Spacey ricocheted the news by publicly coming out as gay. He issued a statement wherein he said he was unable to recollect the incident and apologized if there was a misconduct from his end due to deep drunken behavior.
Rapp’s news was followed by more allegations of inappropriate behavior and misconduct from employees who worked on the set of “House of Cards.” One former production assistant narrates his story of being sexually assaulted during a car ride to the set and said:
“I have no doubt that this type of predatory behavior was routine for him and that my experience was one of many and that Kevin had few if any qualms about exploiting his status and position”
Following the allegations of serious misconduct, Netflix announced that now they will not be involved with any further production of ‘House of Cards’ series that includes Kevin Spacey, post which the actor was suspended by the show’s producer.
House of Cards, the hit series that began in 2013, became the first original online series to receive accolades from the Primetime Emmy Award and has won seven Emmy nominations.
