Box Office: Did Kriti Sanon’s Luka Chuppi win over ex Sushant Singh’s Sonchiriya?

SHARE
Kriti Sanon's film Luka Chuppi overshadowed ex-boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput's film 'Sonchiriya' at the Box Office

When two Bollywood films — Luka Chuppi and Sonchiriya — released on March 1, it seemed more like a ‘Battle of the Exes’. Luka Chuppi starred Kartik Aaryan with Kriti Sanon. And Sonchiriya had a multiple cast beginning from Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpayee and Ranvir Shorey.

Kriti Sanon and Sushant Singh Rajput broke up only recently, and this was perhaps their first clash at the Box Office ever since the couple parted ways. As interesting as it was to see how their respective film’s fared, it was equally jaw-dropping to see that while one film skyrocketed, another one fell with a thud!

The numbers were mind-boggling. Luka Chuppi went strong and stable for as many as two weeks, while Sonchiriya’s fate was wrapped up within it’s 7th day! Here’s a total low-down of how both the films fared at the Box Office recently…

Kriti Sanon and Kartik Aaryan’s film won over Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Sonchiriya

Budget wise, it is exceedingly surprising to know that while Luka Chuppi was made on a budget of Rs 25 crores, Sonchiriya’s budget was an estimated 30 crores. Despite a good budget, an ensemble star cast and shooting in a real location ‘Chambal’ for the movie, Sonchiriya failed to make any mark at the Box Office. And Luka Chuppi, with a comparatively lower budget and a romantic comedy based on ‘live-ins’, made it exceptionally big.

Sushant Singh Rajput-Bhumi-Pednekar-Manoj-Bajpayee and Ranvir Shorey starrer Sonchiriya was also big on its script. With an emotionally touching story, and also a few bouts of critical acclaim, the film apparently was a dud at the Box Office due to it’s loose screenplay. Whereas Luka Chuppi was replete with comic timing, dialogue-baazi, songs, and an interesting script that the current generation relates to!
