Akshay Kumar’s Gold opened with a good figure of Rs 25.25 crore on Wednesday but it witnessed a major drop in its box office collection on the 2nd day.

According to media reports, the movie managed to rake Rs 8 crore taking the total earning to Rs 33.25 crore at the domestic box office.

The dip in the figures can be attributed to the fact that Thursday was a working day.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh posted on micro blogging site Twitter,”#Gold witnessed a decline on Thu… Biz should gain momentum from today onwards… Plexes hold the key… Wed 25.25 cr, Thu 8 cr. Total: ₹ 33.25 cr. India biz.”

Gold ranks third in the list of highest openers this year after Sanju (Rs 34.75 crore) and Race 3 (Rs 29.17 crore). With this the movie has become Akshay’s best first day performer.

The movie is also Akshay’s 8th hit in a row following the success of Pad Man (Rs 78.22 crore), Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Jolly LLB 2 (Rs 117 crore), Rustom (Rs 127.49 crore) that also won him a National Award, Housefull 3 (Rs 109.14 crore), Airlift (Rs 128.1 crore) and Singh Is Bliing (Rs 89.95 crore).

Meanwhile, John Abraham’s Satyamev Jayate, which hit the silver screen on the same day, had a decent start as it collected Rs 20.52 crore on day one and Rs 7.92 crore on the second day.

Taran Adarsh tweeted,”#SatyamevaJayate saw a big dip on Day 2… Expected to show an upward trend today [Day 3]… Single screens/mass belt remains strong… Wed 20.52 cr, Thu 7.92 cr. Total: ₹ 28.44 cr. India biz.”

Together, the two movies broke the highest record opening, which was held by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion which had Rs 40 crore net collections on Day 1.

Now, all eyes are on the weekend collection of the two films as they expected to break a few records as the numbers surge during the weekend.
