The film Chapaak’s lead actress Deepika Padukone was facing controversy since she went JNU campus during the student’s protest against Government. Her act towards the protesters has made a huge impact on her film Chapaak’s business which got released after the three days of her visit. She had faced a huge criticism on social media which also started trending as #BoycottDeepika or #BoycottChapaak.
However, she didn’t say any word in the support of JNU students, nor she said anything against it but stood silent behind them. Sometimes people consider the silence in ‘yes’ thus Deepika in some part had been seen as in the support of protestors.
Meanwhile, people are also waiting to hear from Deepika on this issue but she avoids to speak anything on this matter. But her Director has recently come out to say on this as she asked people to focus on the film.
In an interview with PTI news agency, Meghna Gulzar says “We have to be able to separate between the personal and professional. What somebody does in their personal life and what they have done as a professional in a film needs to be looked at separately,”
She added further “While they are trying to separate the lens of personal and professional if one can slightly divert the lens back to the reason why we made the film and what we are trying to talk about and bring to light… I think it is important,”
Meghna was also asked about the clash between Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji and Deepika starrer Chapaak as Tanhaji is earning quite well than her directed film Chapaak.
Meghna says “This is a distribution decision that was taken by the film’s distributor and I think they believed that both films are very different and will find their audience. I think that also came from a place of faith in the film.
She added further “Considering how populated our film release calendar is, it is extremely difficult to find a solo release,”
Talking about the film’s box office collection then the Chapaak three days earning is Rs 19.02 Crore and Tanha Ji’s earning Rs 61.75 crore.
