The trade analyst Tarun Adarsh tweeted, “#KabirSingh wave grips the nation… Trending on weekdays is an eye-opener… Should comfortably cross ₹ 200 cr in Week 2… Fri 20.21 cr, Sat 22.71 cr, Sun 27.91 cr, Mon 17.54 cr, Tue 16.53 cr, Wed 15.91 cr, Thu 13.61 cr. Kabir Singh is surely raising the flag with high hopes since even after just a week it is going strong at multiplexes and screens. The film Kabir Singh revolve around a character who is an alcoholic medical student and after his failed relationship gets down to the path of self-destruction. The fans are queuing up for the film or to have a glimpse of Shahid Kapoor in the angry young man avatar but at the same time, the film had got slammed down by many critics for glamorizing misogyny.
The India Today reviewer, Ananya Bhattacharya gave the film 1.5 stars out of 5 and wrote, “Kabir Singh spends 120 minutes of its 154 in showing Kabir either drinking or drunk or snorting cocaine or needling in morphine or fighting with people or, slapping his girlfriend or screaming at her. Or making out. In the remaining 24 minutes, his repentance is done with, and we all go home with a happy ending. If you think it is okay, if you think it is justified because ‘movie hai yaar, it’s not real life’, you are part of the problem. Misogyny is not cool. Neither is Kabir Singh.”
