Deepika Padukone on Pay disparity.
Today is the time when actresses have started openly confronting about the pay disparity rampant in the entertainment industry and no one hides the topic under the rugs. Actors and actresses have started coming forward and opening up on this sensitive issue. Deepika Padukone at TIME’s 100 Gala feels its ok if you are crossing the line provided you feel you deserve it. She said:
“You can feel a sense of — am I stepping over the line, do I deserve it? But if you believe you deserve it, then you do. For years, we’ve been made to feel we should be OK with settling for less, with sometimes a promise of getting something more later on. But I think you should get what you think you deserve. It’s OK to fight for it, and it’s OK to feel uncomfortable initially, because that’s just the way we’ve been made to feel for so long.”
Deepika Padukone paid higher than her co stars in Padmaavat.
This was not the first time when Deepika Padukone spoke openly about the pay disparity. In fact earlier this year during the release of her movie Padmaavat when she was asked if she was paid higher than Male co stars Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor she confirmed positively. This was definitely a defining moment in the male dominated industry as an actress was paid greater than her Male costars. However compared to the top stars the actresses have to cover a long journey.
