Winchester Box Office Collection: earns $9.3M despite the Super Bowl Slowdown

Winchester Box Office Collection saw a steady growth in-spite of expected slowdown due to Super Bowl. The Super Bowl Weekend scares all the “biggies” of the industry. But it became a good omen for a low budget Horror movie ‘Winchester.’

The only new wide release this weekend was Lionsgate and CBS Films’ Winchester. The back bencher managed to grab third positions this weekend

Jumanji No. 1

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle switched to second place last weekend due to Maze Runner The Death Cure. But the movie has re-occupied the first position by selling about $11 million in tickets at North American theaters for its seven-week. Taking the domestic total of Jumanji to $352.6 million as per sources.

Losing its grip “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” shifted to second. Making approximately $10.2 million, for a two-week total of $39.8 million.

Winchester grabbed the third place. Inspired from a true-life tale of Sarah Winchester portrayed by Helen Mirren. Set in 19th Century the supernatural chiller, revolves around Winchester’s belief that she is haunted.

The eccentric heiress of the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. fortune, came to believe that people killed by the Winchester rifle were haunting her labyrinthine house.

The Movie did not perform like a typical horror movie. Usually they dip on opening weekends, but Winchester saw good one. Also instead of the usual teen audience, women over the age of 25 made up 64% according to CBS films.

It seems casting veteran actress as protagonist is enhancing the charm of Horror movies. “Insidious: The Last Key,” had Oscar-winning Ms. Mirren is 72 and Lin Shaye, 74. Upcoming film ‘Ma,’ has Oscar winning Octavia Spencer as the lead.

It would be interesting to see if the movie sticks to it’s progress till next weekend. As big players are entering the Box Office market. One being the last installment of Fifty Shades – Fifty Shades Freed. Peter Rabbit and Clint Eastwood’s The 15:17 to Paris is joining the race as well.
