The slow start
Padman is an example of films that almost everyone would like to see, but would not drop by the theatre for it. The reason is its theme – Menstruation and Sanitary pad.
The still Taboo or irksome topic definitely gives a hick up in the ticket sales. On their part the team has derived some innovative techniques to promote the film and loosen people up. The Padman challenge especially was among the most trending hashtags. After all, the bigwigs of entertainment industry came forward to support the cause and posted a picture with Pad.
This might be one of the reason that, the number of screens for Padman does not occupy a large market share. Just 3350 Worldwide screens; whereas its contemporary Padmaavat occupies around 4000 screens (despite the boycott)
#PadMan screen count…
Worldwide total: 3350 screens.

Word of mouth
Padman is a content driven, which highly depends on word of mouth. Looking at yesterday’s trend the film might just pull up its socks and perform better.
The movie received great reviews and support from its fraternity members. Padmaavat’s Khilji and Rani Padmavati, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone was among them as well. Talk about healthy competition.
Any biz analyst would say that everyone is in the business for the money, but an important aspect with such films is the social awareness.
Much like Kumar’s ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha,’ that showcased the problem of open defecation. Also, these films are not made with expansive budget, which makes breaking even easier.
