It is Akshay’s first collaboration with Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment. Yes, we are talking about Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s upcoming movie – Gold, which will hit the theatres on Independence Day, 2018. Akshay, who is right now gearing up for the release of his movie Padman, is all set to raise the curtain of the first trailer of his next project, Gold, on February 5.
Based on true event
Gold is a sports drama and the movie’s story is based on true events about Indian hockey men’s team winning a medal at London Olympics in 1948. Winning this medal was indeed special as this was the first to be won at the significant games after India became independent in 1947. Akshay Kumar plays the role of Balbir Singh, who brought India’s first ever gold medal in London Olympics in1948.
The movie’s shooting was completed in December last year. Besides Akshay Kumar, the movie’s cast include Mouni Roy and Amit Sadh in the lead roles along with Kunal Kapoor and Sunny Kaushal. Mouni will make her Bollywood debut with this movie. Reema Kagti is the Director of Gold. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani are producing the movie.The first leg of the shooting was shot in London in July last year and the last shots were done in Patiala.
Akshay reveals first look
Akshay Kumar took to Twitter to reveal his first look in the movie in which he was seen sporting a vintage look with a moustache in a monochrome image, Akshay captioned the picture as,
“Set out on a brand new journey, aiming for nothing less than #GOLD! Day 1 of Gold, need your love and best wishes as always :)”
Akshay also shared a video of him on a beach where he is seen clad in a white shirt and white dhoti, doing a stunt on a chair followed by a summersault. He wrote,
“A good beginning makes a good ending…true story 🙃 It’s a wrap for #GOLD, an incredible journey with a great team. See you at the movies 😉”
Gold is also actor Akshay Kumar’s first ever sports drama. This will be the first time he will be seen playing a sports person in a film.

Akshay Plays Balbir Singh
The film is basically based on the life of hockey player Balbir Singh who was in the team that won the first Olympic medal for India as a free nation in 1948 at the 14th London Olympiad.Even after retirement, he remained associated with the game as a coach and a manager of the Indian Hockey Team. The 92-year-old player now lives in Canada with his family.
Sticking to the genre of the film, Gold is to release on Independence Day, 2018.
