“Charles in Charge” actress Nicole Eggert has accused her former co-star Scott Baio of sexually molesting her as a minor during an interview with Megyn Kelly on Tuesday. She has she remained silent all these years to protect the show’s legacy and became good in covering up as she was really ashamed of the incidents.
Eggert has accused Baio of sexually exploiting and engaging in sex with her when she was a minor when they were working on the 1980s sitcom The actress used Twitter as her medium to vent out and share details of claims against the former costar saying :
“I’m here today to talk about some allegations that have been made against me that aren’t true by somebody named Nicole Eggert. The reason I’m doing Facebook Live is that nobody can edit me, nobody can change what I said. These are my words. And what I’m telling you is the truth,”
Baio however staunchly denied the allegations of inappropriately touching the minor and said :”I’m going to knock down all these false claims against me. My reputation is being damaged. My family is being put through this and I’m done. I’m done. So, I’m going to walk you through this methodically and hopefully succinctly and please be patient because what I’m being accused of is horrible.”
Though Baio denied the allegations but stated that they had a consensual physical relationship only when Eggert was 18 they had a consensual sexual relationship. He also added that this was a consequence of Eggert instigating and seducing him. He mentioned that Charles in Charge ended in 1990 and that Eggert now 46, would’ve been over 18 at the time.
Baio said this is not the first time Eggert has accused him with such allegations. He said that Eggert first made claims against him in 2012 and 2013 when she was promoting three reality shows and that time he chose not to respond. “I kept my mouth shut because usually when false claims in the past have been made against me they just go away. But for some reason she will not let this one go away,” Baio said.
During her interview with Kelly, Eggert shared that the first incident took place when she was 14 :
“We started filming the show in September of ’86 when I was 14 and he immediately took to me and befriended me and earned my trust. And then he started expressing his love for me…and talking about marriage in the future. And then I was still 14, before my 15th birthday we were at his house, in his car in his garage and he reached over and he penetrated me with his finger. And that is when the sexual touching, abuse started, after that.”
She continued, “I was very young and it was shocking, a little. I had never experienced anything like that before either. So he was playing not only on my emotions but on my hormones and all of those things. The issue with him is that he was our boss and he was also telling me” She said that her sexual encounters with Baio were her first and that he warned her the interaction was illegal.
Though Baio has acknowledged he and Eggert engaged in a one-time consensual sexual encounter when Eggert was 18, Eggert maintains that she was 17; a year younger than the age of consent in the state of California.
Eggert and Baio both worked together in “Charles in Charge,” which was aired from 1984 to 1990. Baio played Charles, a college student and Eggert played Jamie, one of the children Charles looked after.
A letter was also issued by Baio’s attorney to the show’s producers, which read : “To be clear, these accusations by Ms. Eggert are totally and completely false: no sexual contact of any kind ever occurred between Ms. Eggert and Mr. Baio other than on one occasion, which was planned and initiated by Ms. Eggert, when Ms. Eggert was well over the age of 18.”
Baio gained fame in recent years for speaking at the Republican National Convention in 2016 and his support of President Donald Trump.
