Tom Cruise-starrer ‘American Made‘ hit the theatres this Friday in the United States. This biographical crime film directed by Doug Liman was a much-anticipated movie of the season as it is Cruise’s first release after The Mummy which didn’t do that well at the box office earlier this year. Made at a budget of INR 3,204.97 million, the plot of American Made focuses on Barry Seal (played by Tom Cruise), a former TWA pilot who became a drug smuggler for the Medellín Cartel in the 1980s. In order to avoid jail time, Seal approached United States government officials and served as an informant for the DEA.
Based on true events, ‘American Made’ has got pretty good reviews and ratings which has helped to fill up the theatres and get the big money coming. Currently rated 7.3 at IMDb, the movie grossed over USD 6 million making it the top-grossing movie of the week domestically as ‘American Made’ took over ‘It’ and ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ for the weekend earnings.
‘It’ grossed slightly over INR 314.09 million and ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ earned INR 307.68 million. The ‘LEGO: Ninjago Movie’ and ‘Flatliners’ came in fourth and fifth place with INR 173.07 and INR 134.61 million respectively. Tonight’s rush factor will decide who comes up Kingsman or American Made. Even though ‘American Made’ has received 87% Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes but it is nothing to dance up and down on a sofa about. (It’s Cruise’s lowest opening in five years)
Tom Cruise in the recent years has been a bigger star outside North America than within North America, which also has been the case with other big stars ( Such as Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt ). One more reason why ‘The Mummy’ barely grossed INR 5,127.96 million in the United States but INR 25,960.29 million worldwide.
‘American Made’ is a movie produced by perfection and class. It is a top goal for guys over 25, You can not get a INR 3,845.97 million movie for a single quadrant, older male crowd. It’s clear that Golden Circle and IT are stealing away that 17-34 guy crowd from American Made.
Tom Cruise has been cast rightly in this movie as his portrayal of Barry Seal is quite a watch. Doug Liman’s direction has been on point as he pulled off dark comedy with the assistance of some skilled acting by Cruise.

The ‘American Made’ is expected to earn a pretty INR 1,025.59 million domestically by the end of the weekend. The movie has already made more than the budget as far as the worldwide collection is concerned.
But people make your choices fair. Because American Made is a subgenre we’ve seen a lot many times, why spending the extra money to watch it when you have Netflix (Narcos).
