Harvey Weinstein responded to allegations about his treatment of women in Hollywood to The New York Times.

Harvey Weinstein is an American film producer and film studio executive. He renowned as the co-founder of Miramax, which produced several popular films such as Pulp Fiction, Clerks, The Crying Game, and Sex, Lies, and Videotape. He and his brother are the co-chairmen of The Weinstein Company, their film production company, for more than a decade now. He won an Academy Award for producing Shakespeare in Love and garnered seven Tony Awards to produce a variety of winning plays and musicals, including The Producers, Billy Elliot the Musical, and August: Osage County.

Weinstein was accused of sexual harassment On 5th of October this year by a number of women, including Ashley Judd. In a statement to The New York Times, he said, “I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it.” One adviser described him as “an old dinosaur learning new ways.”

He said he was due to take an extended leave and was working with therapists to “deal with this issue head-on. Also, his consulting lawyer, Lisa Bloom, stated that “he denies many of the accusations as patently false.”

In an email sent by Weinstein’s attorney Charles Harder, he said they would be suing The New York Times and any proceeds made from the suit would be donated to women’s organizations.

Not only into women harassment, Weinstein has also gained a reputation for mercilessness and fits of anger. According to Biskind, Weinstein once put a New York Observer reporter in a headlock while throwing him out of a party. On another occasion, Weinstein condemned director Julie Taymor and her husband during an argument over a test screening of her movie Frida.

Weinstein however, has been repentant for his often aggressive talks with directors and producers.

If Weinstein believes that releasing this pathetic statement and taking a leave to “work on himself” will be the end of this, he’s highly mistaken. These things have a way of ruining careers —  ask Roger Ailes, Bill O’Reilly, and Bill Cosby.

Weinstein, who is certainly described as the most powerful man in Hollywood, can do a better work surviving the wave of allegations and stories which we are sure to hear more about in coming weeks.

Here is the document of the statement Weinstein has made.
