SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE TAKES A DIG AT HARVEY WEINSTEIN, FINALLY!

NBC’s popular TV show Saturday Night Live finally took a dig at the Harvey Weinstein Scandal. On 5th October, The New York Times released an expose revealing that Harvey Weinstein has been involved with sexual harassment, misconduct, and assault for allegedly 30 years. The news shocked the Hollywood and with time more revelations were made about Harvey Weinstein and behavior with female co-workers in the Industry.

Last Saturday, the news about Harvey Weinstein was pretty new and Saturday Night Live somehow thought that it will be a good idea to cut out the jokes on the Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct scandal last minute. The episode got aired only sometime after the Scandal of Harvey Weinstein broke, and there weren’t any mentions about the whole issue that was probably the most talked about topic in the Hollywood last week. According to the sources, the jokes were omitted last minute because those jokes didn’t quite work well on the audience during the dress rehearsal.

But this week, Saturday Night Live went all guns blazing on the issue as they attacked the movie mogul, Harvey Weinstein, in the best way possible.

The American sketch comedy show has a segment called “Weekly Update” and this week they used it to address the Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct scandal. Colin Jost went straight to the issue and the ‘Weinstein Jokes’ combining it with the news of Apple’s new emojis. The host Colin Jost said, “Apple announced it will add hundreds of new emojis to its iOS system including a person at a spa, a vomiting face and a shushing finger — finally giving emoji fans the ability to describe what it was like to work for Harvey Weinstein.”

Colin Jost then continued to say that the co-founder of The Weinstein Company, Harvey is looking for treatment. He followed that up by saying, ” Somehow, I don’t think that is going to help anybody. He doesn’t need sex rehab. He needs a specialized facility where there are no women, no contact with the outside world, metal bars, and it’s a prison.”

The response of the audience in the background was enough to suggest that this time the jokes did well indeed impress the audience.

Jost’s co-anchor Micheal Che didn’t keep away from all this for a long time. “This is a tough spot for a comedian because it’s so hard to make jokes about sexual assault, but it’s so easy to make jokes about a guy that looks like this,” he said. “I mean, he looks like chewed bubblegum rolled in cat hair.”

He then goes on to deliver what was the best of the lot. He says, ” Weinstein told reporters that ‘we all make mistakes,’ but you assaulted dozens of women — that’s not a mistake, that’s a full season of Law and Order.”
