Veteran director and producer Ram Mukherjee passed away on Sunday morning at 5 am at his residence in Mumbai. He is the father of the Indian actress Rani Mukherjee. The filmmaker was 84 years old.

His wife Krishna Mukherjee told a media person over the phone, “He was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital from October 13 and his treatment was going on. Unfortunately, his body was not responding to the treatment that well this time. Last night, his blood pressure suddenly dropped around 5 am.”

She said in a very emotional tone, “He is no more, everything is finished.”

The famous filmmaker has many critically successful movies to his name.
The list includes movies such as Raktanadir Dhara, Tomar Rakte Amar Sohag, Raktalekha and Ek Bar Mooskura Do, Biyer Phool. He was known for mostly screenwriting and directing movies in Bengali and Hindi language.

Biyer Phool launched Rani Mukherjee as it was her debut movie and was directed as well as produced by Ram Mukherjee.

Ram Mukherjee was the co-founder of Filmalaya Studios, had directed films like Hum Hindustani and Leader.

The chief minister of West Bengal, Mamta Banerjee posted a tweet saying, “Saddened at the passing of veteran filmmaker Ram Mukherjee. My condolences to his family. ”

Rani, along with husband Aditya Chopra, was present for the last rites at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle West.
Actors Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh and Anil Kapoor were among the few others who came along to pay their last respect to Ram Mukherjee.

The famous Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee who has been close to the Mukherjee family tweeted, “Really sad to hear Ram Mukherjee passed away. I had an opportunity to work with him in ‘Rakta Nadir Dhara’, ‘Raktalekha’, ‘Biyer Phool’. RIP Ramda”.

Ram Mukherjee is survived by his wife, Krishna Mukherjee, daughter Rani Mukherjee Chopra and Son, Raja Mukherjee.
