LEGENDARY MOVIE WRITER-DIRECTOR DIED SUFFERING FROM MASSIVE HEART ATTACK AT 69: KUNDAN SHAH

Legendary movie writer and director Kundan Shah passed away after suffering a massive cardiac arrest on Saturday morning in Mumbai. He is best known for the 1983 dark comedy “Jaane Bhi do yaaro” which was his directorial debut and he managed to snatch the best director award for Kundan Shah at the National Awards that year. The movie wasn’t the biggest of hits but is considered as one of the classics in the Indian Cinematic history. The 69-year-old filmmaker was a true stimulus to the young generation of directors in Bollywood as he has delivered one after one great movie with good critical reviews for all. In the genre of dark satirical comedies, Kundan Shah has received many achievements.

"Jaane Bhi do yaaro"

Kundan Shah has many successful movies to his name with commercial and critical success. The list of his notable works includes Khamosh(1985), Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1993), Kya Kehna (2000) and Dil Tumhara Hai (2002). He did make some movies after that but those didn’t have similar commercial success as others. He also directed two TV series Nukkad (1986) and Wagle Ki Duniya (1988).

His movie Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa starring Shah Rukh Khan won the Filmfare Critics Award for the Best Movie.

Kundan Shah is an alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.

 

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his condolences via Twitter. A tweet from his official account was posted and said ” Anguished by the passing away of Shri Kundan Shah. He will be remembered for his wonderful usage of humor and satire to showcase the life & struggles of common citizens. My thoughts are with his family & admirers. May his soul rest in peace: PM @narendramodi”

Many B-town celebrities such as Anil Kapoor, Kundan’s dear friend and filmmaker Sudhir Mishra, Naseeruddin Shah, his wife Ratna Pathak Shah, Raveena Tandon, Satish Shah, Pawan Malhotra and Raj Zutshi were seen outside the filmmaker’s residence where everyone paid their final tribute to the legendary director and

bid him goodbye.
