BLADE RUNNER: OPENING COLLECTIONS AND MOVIE REVIEW

When Ridley Scott directed Blade Runner released in 1982, people knew that this sci-fi classic is way ahead of its time. Well, it literally was as movie plot was taking place in 2019. 35 years later, the movie “Blade Runner 2049” released after much anticipation and honestly, it is a visual treat.

The movie starts 30 years after the incidents of the original movie. A new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (played by Ryan Gosling) uncovers a secret that has been long buried and has the capability to push the entire society into complete mayhem. K’s discovery guides him to search Rick Deckard (played by Harrison Ford, who reprises his role from the first movie), as he has been missing for 30 years now.

The movie revisits the nicely set up world of Ridley Scott’s 1982 Blade Runner and forms another masterpiece made by the pieces left by Scott, only this time the movie is skillfully made by Denis Villeneuve, who is a great storyteller.

Blade Runner 2049 will surely be regarded as one of the classics in the near future. Denis Villeneuve does everything that can be asked from him. He selects a popular storyline, builds on it and places the crucial plot points. It’s not only the director who shines here. The 13 times Oscar-nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins, makes a point that he might just bag his 14th oscar nomination by his amazing work on this movie. The soundtrack was another important aspect in the original that was innovative, and genius Hans Zimmer does complete justice to those iconic themes created by Vangelis.

Talking about the cast, Ryan Gosling delivered another breathtaking performance as he has hardly done anything wrong in the recent times. Harrison Ford knows what to do correctly and perfectly in movies such as these and he did exactly that in his own style. His screentime and bond with Ryan Gosling have affected the plot-points in the best way possible. There are small roles played by Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, and Mackenzie Davis that only made the movie experience better.

Overall, Blade Runner 2049 is probably one of the best movies of the year and won’t disappoint you at all if you can understand properly. Its a must watch.

But only critical success won’t satisfy the producers of this movie made on the budget of over $150 million. The movie has grossed around $31.5 million domestically and is topping the charts at the box office this weekend but it was expected to reach $50 million clearly because of the hype and very strong review in favor of the movie. Internationally, it hasn’t lived up to its expectations either.
