Hindi Cinema’s fairy queen Shakila breathed her last after getting a massive heart attack in the city on Wednesday afternoon at 82. Yesteryear’s top actress has more than 50 movies to her credit and featured in such cult films as Hatim Tai (1965), Guru Dutt’s Aar Paar (1954) which was the debut film of her and CID (1956), Shammi Kapoor in China Town (1962) etc.

The beautiful actress worked with eminent actors such as Manoj Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Sunil Dutt, Dev Anand and Johny Walker.

The late actress featured in some super hit songs whose meaningful lyrics and ear-soothing tunes still make them alive in many hearts. No one would ever forget her crème-de-la-crème chartbusters such as ‘Babuji Dheere Chalna, Aar Paar’, ‘Ankhon Hi Aankhon Mein Ishara Ho Gaya, CID’, ‘Leke Pehla Pehla Pyar, CID’, ‘Ae Mere Dil Hai Nadaan, Tower House’ and ‘Neend Na Mujhko Aaye, Post Box No.999’.

The resident of Bandra and often called the fairy queen of Indian fantasies was rushed to a nearby hospital. According to her colleagues, Shakila couldn’t find instant admission and had to be taken to the Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu.

When the actress Shakila had a huge fan following and was a craze of masses, she used to live in the popular art-deco building, Gobind Mahal on Marine Drive. But after her daughter’s suicide at the famed South Bombay oceanfront building, she shifted to Bandra. Shakila was married to an NRI film distributor for some year.

The magnetic actress’s sister, Noor, aspired towards stardom, too, but ultimately quit to marry popular comedian Johnny Walker.

Though she had a friendship with Waheeda Rehman, Jabeen Jalili, Nanda; the actress was in regular touch with Saira Banu and Asha Parekh in her last years.
